Solar Cell & Charging capacitor to run motor

Post by paul123 » Thu Nov 06, 2008 2:17 pm

The aim of the project is for students to design and make a buggy (approx 150 x 80 mm)? that stops at a desired distance. The buggy I hope to run from a motor powered by a capacitor.

The distance the buggy travels will I hope relate to the time the capacitor was charged and its size (value).

The students will investigate and record findings and plot a graph. Using this graph they will try and get the buggy to stop at a stated distance.

I am not sure in theroy this will work? Any advice / info before I spend time on developing the activity. Type of solar cell? Capacitor Value? Motor type?

So it is clear.. The idea is there will be only 1 solar cell. The students buggy houses only the motor and the capacitor. They charge the buggy at a "station" and then run the buggy with its charged capacitor.

Thanks.
Paul.
