I need a high frequency product...

Hi, I'm new here and I'm not an electronics buff but I'm in need of a little help.

I'm looking to make/build/create a high frequency speaker to deter a dog from barking.

I know there are products available that claim to do this but none seem to really work.

My wish is that the noise will penetrate a house wall as it's my next door neighbours dog which is driving me mad.

I don't want to hurt the animal, just emit to noise when it barks in the hope I can train it.

Any help appreciated.

I'm keen on building a small but very powerful device that operates on the dogs hearing level but is inaudible to a human (normally over 20kHz, mainly around 40kHz and up to 60kHz)

It's nearly impossible to get ultrasound to go through a house wall. The higher the frequency, the easier it gets absorbed in building structures. The inverse is also true: Soundproofing a room so you can practice playing bass guitar without annoying the neighbours is extremely difficult and costly.

If you want to generate high levels of ultrasound, you can use a cheap piezo tweeter - they work pretty well. Hook it up to a simple squarewave oscillator with a full bridge (also called "H Bridge") output stage - you might use a stepper motor driver IC.

Consider however that your ultrasound is going to annoy not only your neighbour's dog, but any other cats and dogs within range and probably birds as well.

That's a small surface mount inductor (coil), with a value of 47 uH. They are often used in small switching power supplies.

Also if you place the piezo in a horn (like a megaphone) you should be able to get some focus on the area where the dog is.
So that would have to go in your garden somewhere.
