Electronic Timer

Post by cc75 » Thu Mar 05, 2009 3:45 pm

Hi

Unsure if I am asking this question in the right place, but does anyone have any ideas on how to create a basic timing system to use in training sessions for sprint athletes. We would be running over distances from 20m to 100m+ and would require a trigger (pressure pad??) when the athlete starts to start the clock (1/100th second accuracy preferably) and some way of stopping the timer when the athlete crosses the line.

Really don't know if this is possible or would be possible for any kind of affordable money - we have access to computers etc so if that would help with ideas regarding logging the time. Once again, would probably need to be manufactured from widely available products.

Really appreciate any ideas anybody out there has.

Ta

It might be worth seeing if a ready made stop watch could be modified to accept input from a pressure switch to operate the start and stop (or lap) functions. Might be easier than building something from scratch. Failing that I would think you could probably get a stopwatch / counter as a kit (e.g. from Quasar Electronics - http://www.quasarelectronics.com), again modifying this to accept the necessary switches.
