Repair of Vintage SMC controller
Repair of Vintage SMC controller
I have a obsolete central heating controller made by SMC (Now Horseman) which controls central heating and water, firing the boiler and responding to a thermostat. It has just to function. It fails to fire the boiler and has tripped the earth leakage circuit breaker. I have contacted both an electrician and a heating engineer who both say that as the part is obsolete and has no modern replacement we are in (expensive) trouble - neither has any electronics capacity to repair it.
The parts are simple a somewhat noisy clock - I have access to a second hand replacement - a switch for off / constant and auto which buzzes on constant, a switch for heating on and off. This is a two pump system. Internally there is a small PCB and a relay which controls the switching. The belief is that this has failed but it may of course have burned out the PCB.
Has anyone got any experience of tackling this sort of problem - even better is there a competent person in Gloucestershire who is willing / able to tackle it.
If anyone can offer help my thanks in advance.
