escalators electric system - control cabinet
Hi!
I work for a company in Austria and I am looking for creative people that could come up with a solution for the electric and communication system (for an escalator). In case the profile will fit, I can recommend them to the client for a collaboration.
The current electrical control system consists of the drive control system, the communication system and the microcontroller board. All three components are housed in a control cabinet and are connected to several sensors in the escalator. The aim is now to substantially reduce the control and communication systems' weight (currently 50 kg) and dimensions (currently 500x700x300mm), to modernize the entire design and to make sure that the new control and communication system is based on a technology which allows for long-term upgradability and availability.
So basically what they want is a new system design, using standard components, more compact, lighter, easier to upgrade, multi-core system controller and real time, flexible...Has any of you designed similar applications and has great ideas?
Thanks!
Anca

You need someone who is skilled in this type of work to come and see it, why have comms if it is just an escalator?

As far as I can see you need an on off switch, may be emergency stop buttons...Why the GPS micro control?

Hi Paul!
Please help me better understand your question...
I am interested to know if there is someone over here or if you know someone who had similar requirements and need to develop a new control cabinet or communication system.
Has any of you developed
- a more compact and efficient, maybe easier to upgrade communication and sensor system (sensor wiring, field bus system etc) or
- a multi-core system controller and a real-time system, a microcontroller board (standard or using FPGA or both on the same controller board)?
If yes, I would be interested in having a discussion about these.
Thank you very much!

I don't understand why you need communications for a moving staircase, nor do I understand why you have a computer controller. They are basically on and off.
For any safety features fieldbus isn't imo a good idea, hard wiring is the way forward.
