Microcontrollers

Hello, This is my first post so apoologies if I have placed it in the wrong area. I am looking to give myself a project using a microcontroller, however this will the 1st time I will have used one. The project I am giving myself is for the microcontroller to receive a signal which will then enab;e the microcontroller to count time. Once the signal is received to stop then the information is to be stored in some memory, which will then eventually be downlaoded via USB card or Bluetooth.

Ambitious but then thats how to lear ne best I believe, anyway to my point. I was hoping that someone may be able to give me some pointers with regards to learning about microcontrollers via a book, can anyone recommend anything that might help me in my project?

Which microcontroller have you got in mind? What sort of information are you looking to store?
