I shall explain this breifly. I'm wanting to make a box to go on stage with a grated top. Inside the box will be a bright white light. What i want to do is set the grated top up with some form of pressure pad so that when someone stands on the box, the light will turn on.
From what i know so far, how ever i fashion the pressure pad, i will need to use a relay circuit to keep it safe. last thing i want is mid show to be electrocuted! lol
Anyway, I'm fairly technical minded but unfortunately don't know a great deal about where to start with something like this.
Any help and suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

If there is nothing going on above you (ie movement) then you could position a 'motion detector' (found on security lightts and systems) pointing straight up so that when you move over it, it senses your movement.
The motion detector uses light to detect anything different it its path so it is quite safe.
You can also vary the rate so that it only works at a short distance as you dont want it triggering if something is going
on say, in the stage lighting gantry in the roof. you can also vary the time it stays on if no further movement is detected.
Have a look through Maplins/Farnell/RS catalogues for one that matches the wattage of your light. If the light is very powerful you may indeed need an extra relay to cope with it but at least you will be able to position it safely away.

I had thought about a motion detector but there will indeed be a lot of motion on stage from various lights and the people on stage. I'd also like the time in which it turns on and off to be as tight as can be.
Another idea I have had though which does include a motion detector is to set up some form of lighting rig that changes its pattern when one of us on stage gets in the way of it. As you can tell by my vague description of this though, thats a little way off being made
Thanks for the reply
