Newbie needs help with circuit

Post by ndru » Sat Mar 13, 2010 12:22 am

First of all - Hi all

Secondly

I do not know much about electronics and circuits. I know it's a bad way to start this post, but there's no hiding it.
Moreover that's exactly why I am here, because it seems to me, that what I have in mind is quite easy for a person that knows that s/he's doing.
OK so what I want to do is
1) have a switch (A)operating on the main 230V power line - like a light switch, but this switch would be one operated by another circuit of much smaller voltage - so when the low voltage circuit is closed by its switch (B) the high voltage circuit would be closed by the switch (A)
2) have a mean of transforming the 230V voltage into a much smaller voltage to power the low voltage circuit.

OK I hope I made it clear. Would you know how to do this? I would appreciate any help and would be very grateful for names of the particular parts I need to get.

Thanks

Andrew

something like this?

http://www.emosystems.co.uk/Products/Ma ... ystem.html

the master unit can be controlled by a slave using a low voltage line

or something much cheaper and simpler

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... &U=strat15

obviously you could break into the transmitter and put your own switich across it

top newb use a transformer isolated like a old helogen light 1 and relays of sed apropreate ratings trasformer gives low volts to power relays add switch gear to cct and contacts go to mains cct

bottom newb read some books dicksmith funway and jakar these are good beginers stuff and a few tools and muiltimeter and soldering iron are all u need to start if lost mm me
